I arrived back from Malaga on the 25th July
26th July is Aunt Sylvia's birthday, 102 and perky! It was great to see her.
And for the weekend it's down to Rye for the annual grass court tennis tournament. I don't enter myself, but there are 16 players from Old College TC this year and it is a great weekend with good tennis to watch. This year I took grandson Kian. He plays tennis and, since wind was forecast, we could go kitesurfing at Camber Sands. One small element missing, my bus is in Malaga, I'd overlooked that! I borrowed a tent from Gill and we got our heads down for the night. Well, we would have, but I'd forgotten pillows, I don't normally have to think about these things. No problem with the hard ground but no pillow, I was so uncomfortable and even now have a stiff and painful neck.
After some tennis in the morning, Camber Sands on Saturday and it is windy, a lot of kiters on the water. I've fixed Kian up with an instructor to learn some sand kiting while I get out on the water. There is a strong break but I get up ok before being taken out a few times with the break kicking my board from beneith me. Although I make some good runs in both directions, upwind and stability is still the problem.
On Sunday Kian and I get out on the courts before the tournament starts and then back to Camber where the wind is a few knots slower and the break less ferocious. I have a much better time of it
Back at the tennis club Kian hooked up with some mates to play Paddle Tennis. I'm not entirely sure how the rules were interpreted, but they played for hours and had a great time.
Come Monday and finals day, Old College triumphed in the handicap mixed doubles A and B groups. Here are Joe and Virunee (on the left) and Phil and Sarah. Would you say they are happy?!
Having spent the past month with my nose in the dust, grinding things out, time for a short break.
In just a few hours I'm off to Hurghada on the Red Sea with Camber Kite Centre. Flat water, clean and constant wind, maybe now is the time to crack this kitesurfing.
.............. and then back to Malaga to pick up my bus and hopefully get the solar charging sorted, before heading back to Tarifa. A few weeks in Morocco returning to go round the Med to Barcelona. Well that's the plan so far, although I've not worked out quite how to handle the 90/180 day rule. I have an App but it's not giving me the answers I need, well not yet anyway.
